Our Beginning
Our love of this breed started over 20 years ago. Our family business goes to every county fair each year. We watch the youth showing their animals one after the other. While at the Warren County Fair in VA, a young girl brought two ewes into the ring. These ewes instantly enchanted us, they were smaller in stature, docile and had the most beautiful spots. Velma and Roxy came home with us and started us on this wonderful Harlequin journey.
Meet our Wonderful Sheep
History of the Harlequin Breed
Humble beginnings:
Kathleen Sterling, from Clarke County VA, was the originator of this amazing breed. We had known her and her farm well, as the owners of Gore's Processing we were her meat processor as she was developing this breed. She worked many years to produce the size, conformation, and temperament, all while being naturally colored and polled. Kathy's hard work and perseverance paid off and the American Harlequin Breed became recognized! However, Kathy fell ill and was only able to assist in getting the registry started before passing.
OUr Ramsey
Seeing Spots Farm's Involvement:
Now many years later the breed has grown and spread all over the United States. We are proud to say that we, Seeing Spots Farm, have played a large part in the breed's growth.
We borrowed a ram from Kathy to breed to Velma and Roxy and we started growing our flock in 2004
Seeing Spots Ramsey was born and began an amazing legacy of beautiful lambs that have made quite an impact on the breed's growth as a whole. We were able to cast this breed coast to coast because of him and he will always be remembered in our hearts.
Seeing Spots Farm's Goals for the Breed
We have done our best to keep the breed true to what Kathy envisioned, honoring her memory and hard work.
Every spring we are blessed with beautiful, bouncing baby lambs that we sell as backyard pets, wonderful wool producers, breeding stock and meat production.
As of June 2022, we can proudly say that 4 of our lambs can call the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan New York "home".
They have made wonderful Harlequin Ambassadors at the Tisch Children's Zoo
